Is there a place where you go that you immediately get into the Christmas spirit and think of those fond Christmas memories? That place for me is the home of my bestie of 38 years (Yikes!!) She spends all year planning additions to her holiday decorations. (As if more could fit) She sets aside 3 days after Thanksgiving to decorate her beautiful home. (Guess who her designer is?!) A few years ago she added a coastal themed tree and turned her den into a seaside Christmas celebration. She decorated this tree with rope, starfish and shells- simple and inexpensive but beautiful.
Her family has collected nutcrackers over the years and there are many of them throughout the house but the long row going up the stairs is the most dramatic. They welcome you as you come in along with beautiful garland wrapped around the posts and poinsettias.
She also has a collectible for each line in the song “the 12 days of Christmas “. Hidden throughout the first floor you will find a partridge in a pear tree, 2 turtle doves, 3 French hens (My personal favorite!) and so on! It’s fun to try and find them all! In addition to the tree by the sea, there are 2 other trees on the first floor. The dining room tree is full of old world ornaments, many of which have a sport theme. Each one has a memory that she shared with her family like her children’s youth as well as college campus trips the family takes!! (That’s a whole other blog!!) The living room tree is chock full of decorations that tell the story of many of life’s events personal, family milestones, childhood years, family and friend’s gifts over the many years she has been collecting them. Next to the large tree, is a handmade Santa that pays tribute to her late brother!
The centerpiece of the holiday decorations is the saying she has custom made for the foyer wall each year! This sets the tone for the many celebrations held throughout the holidays. This year she chose-“it’s the most wonderful time of the year”. For my dear friend, it is indeed the most wonderful time.
As you approach her home outside, the beautiful lights sparkle and shine, a seating area and decorations adorn the front porch such as a large Santa in a sled, the feeling of Christmas envelopes you and you feel glad to be a part of making a new Christmas memory! Happy decorating!!
